Kalungu Woman MP Florence Kintu is now a happy woman after Nibya money lenders Limited withdrew charges of issuing a bounced cheques against her.

Nibya had dragged Kintu to court after she issued fake cheques of sh9.9m as she tried to refund the money she borrowed last year.

Innocent Ndahiriwe, Nibya's lawyer told Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Olive Kazaarwe Mukwaya that his client is no longer interested in pursuing case.

Magistrate Kazaarwe had earlier issued a warrant of arrest for Kintu after she failed to appear in court to answer the charges.

Ndahiriwe told court that Kintu had settled the matter by paying the debts and therefore they do not want to proceed with case.

"Since the complainant has received the money, the matter is discontinued and dismissed accordingly," Kazaarwe said.

Prosecution led by Peace Biira said Kintu on September20, 2012 at Nibya office Serena Conference Centre in Kampala without reasonable excuse issued an Equity Bank cheque number 000014 of sh9.9m to Nibya drawn on account number 420060375 when there was no money on the account.

The MPs, who risk imprisonment or losing their properties to money-lenders and banks, reportedly petitioned Museveni at the NRM Caucus meeting at State House Entebbe last week seeking to be bailed out of their huge debts.

MPs earn close to sh20m monthly but the debts have wiped out their earnings, with some of them going home penniless at the end of the month.

The MPs, led by an MP from Buganda region and a senior parliamentary commissioner, reportedly told the President that they were broke and want money to bail them out.
