The 2013 edition of the Monrovia Breweries Incorporated (MBI) open annual golf tournament ended on Sunday July 28, 2013 at the Sea View Golf Club in Virginia outside Monrovia.
This year's tournament was in commemoration of Liberia 166th Independence Day celebration which brought together professionals, amateurs, caddies and juniors.
The MBI Open is purported to give golfers the prospect of showcasing their potential and to keep active for international competitions.
Yusuff Kromah came first in the professional category winning with 66 points, Idrissa Kamara and Shad Devine came second and third with 67 and 69 points respectively.
The amateur saw Sam Jinga defeating Nelson Oniyamah and Solomon Nimley with 65 points. Both Oniyamah and Nimley scored 66 and 68 points.
Caddies who play on nine holes produced three winners with Thomas Debee scoring 42, Jekins Dehnie with 43 and Abu Boakai 45.
The Junior golfers from the Dream Golf Academy displayed stunning recital, which adage Frank Obeing as the winner with 32, Edwin Smallwood second with 36 points, Idrissa Kargbo and Jenkins Leeway tied with 39.
In a remark at the presentation of awards, the president of the Liberia Golf Association (LGA) Dr. C. Nelson Oniyamah commended the Liberian golfers for their superb talents exhibited in the competition.
Dr. Oniyamah urged the local players to increase their time of training which could give them better score in any given tournament as to bring proud to themselves.
The Golf Supremom revealed that there will be a regular international annual event between Liberia and Sierra Leone as to keep the relationship stronger and give some golfers in Liberia international exposure.
He disclosed that the LGA has embarked on the training of 30 Liberian kids who are school going children in readiness to replace the current cram of professionals who have limited time in the game.
According to him, the kids practice every week in a special organized tournament.
