Liberia: LAF Embarks On International Training

The German Olympic Committee (GOC) has extended its shower of blessing to the Liberian Athletic Federation (LAF) with the donation of material assistance worth € 5,000 to the local body. The German Olympic Committee has agreed to conduct a two week International Association of Athletic Federation (IAAF) level one course for athletic coaches in Liberia.

The Secretary General of the local athletic federation Winton Cole revealed that 30 coaches have been earmarked for the training which is expected to run from August 1-14, 2013.

He stated that the two-week training will consider both practical and theory and is expected to be held at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville.

According to him, certificates will be awarded to participants based on merit and it will afford them the opportunity to coach athletic in any part of the world.

Mr. Cole revealed that Dr. Winfried Spanaus who lives in Germany is expected to land today to conduct the training.

He urged the local coaches to add value to the training as to give them the opportunity to ply their trade in other parts of the world.

Meanwhile, the LAF chief scribe disclosed that the € 5,000 equipment arrived in the country since Monday and was cleared from the airport through the kind courtesy of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

He noted that the LAF wrote the German Olympic Committee for assistance through the Liberia Olympic Committee since January of this year.
