Nsanje — Nsanje police have arrested three people for allegedly registering twice in the voter's registration exercise currently underway.
Nsanje police officer-in-charge, Assistant Commissioner Sekani Tembo confirmed to the Malawi News Agency (Mana) that Faison Thuchira, 29, Nowa Sandram, 29, and Jane Fred 25 were arrested after a tip-off that they registered twice in two different registration centres.
"It is true that we have arrested three people including a primary school teacher who are in our custody for registering twice against elections laws that allow one to register only once," she said.
According to Tembo, Thuchira and Fred first registered on July 24 at Mbwazi ADMARC registration centre and later on July 25 and July 27 respectively at Namiyala Primary School registration centre both in Nsanje North Constituency.
"Sandram first registered on July 22 at Mbwazi ADMARC and then on July 26 at Namiyala School registration centre. These suspects will appear in court soon," the Office-in-Charge said.
Tembo said Thuchira comes from Nsomo Village, Traditional Authority Ngabu in Chikhwawa while Fred and Sandram are from Sandram and Gundani Villages respectively, Traditional Authority Mlolo in the district.
