Blantyre, July 31, Mana: The Minister of Home Affairs, Uladi Mussa says plans to construct a new police station in the city of Blantyre are underway once funds become available.
Mussa told the Malawi News Agency (Mana) on Wednesday that the police station is to be constructed in Blantyre city just behind old magistrate court close to where the new government offices were constructed to enable people from the city have access to the services.
"We need to have a police station around the town because Wenela is somehow far to other Blantyre city residents and for a city to have its police station located far from it, it's not on," said Mussa.
The Minister said a city should have a police station within and not some kilometers away to avoid inconveniences.
The Minister was however, quick to stress that these are just plans which are yet to be implemented because of financial constraints but as soon as the funds are available the work shall commerce.
On another note, Mussa revealed that government will construct police units in all the trading centers where there is none across the country more especially in rural areas for security purposes.
"Every trading centre must have a police unit; people should not have police units far from them because the police are there for the people.
"We do not want people to live in fear and all this has been done because we want to tighten security in the country.
"The aim of the police is to ensure there is security and order in the country to let people live freely," he explained.
