Nigeria: Civil Defence Arrests 36 Vandals in Cross River

Calabar — Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Cross River State, Dr. Benito Eze, said Tuesday that his men arrested 36 persons over vandalization of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) electrical cables and other installations.

Speaking during a stakeholders meeting on anti-vandalism, Eze said 11 of the suspects have already been charged to court. He described vandalism has a serious threat to the economy of the country and stressed that the corps will stop at nothing to stem the tide in the state.

Also speaking, Business Manager of PHCN, Calabar, Engr. Joseph Aikowe, attributed the lack of constant power supply in the country to the activities of vandals.
