Akwanga — Widows of the 64 policemen killed in Alakyo by suspected members of the Ombatse group in Nasarawa State on May 7 have called on the government to give them jobs in order to ameliorate their sufferings.
They also lamented the nonchalant attitude of the government towards their plight, saying all the monetary donations made in their names were not given to them except those of the Federal and Nasarawa State governments.
"The only thing that government can do for us now is to give us jobs so that we can continue paying our house rents and children school fees. Things have just changed completely in the last three months," said Afiniki Daniel, whose husband was killed.
Another widow, Sarah Gideon, said, "I want to use this medium to call on the government to do something urgently by providing jobs for all of us. We're many and we have children to cater for. At least, our husbands died while trying to ensure security in the country, so we should be considered for that."
