Nigeria: Jigawa Varsity Takes Off With Three Faculties

The Jigawa State Commissioner for Education (Science and Technology) Professor Haruna Wakil,has said that the newly approved Jigawa State University, Kafin-Hausa, will take off with three faculties in September.

Professor Wakili told newsmen that the three are; Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Faculty of Education.

He said, "The National Universities Commission recently recognized the state university as the 39th state university and the 129th university in the Nigerian university system. It is a conventional university that will offer courses and conduct researches in various areas of sciences, education humanities and management. In the Faculty of Science, we are starting with the departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science. In the humanities, we have; English, Arabic, Hausa, History and International Studies and Islamic studies while Faculty Education offers relevant courses in that area".

He said the courses have been selected with the manpower needs of the state in mind, adding that the university will be of highest infrastructural and academic standard.
