Members of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Public Accounts yesterday summoned the management of the Sierra Leone Rokel Commercial Bank to quiz them on some 'grey areas' highlighted in the Audit report of 2011.
Deputy Chairman of the committee, Hon. Eric Koedoyoma, stated that the committee is not a court but a public hearing by the people's representatives charged with the responsibility to ensure that public institutions perform theirduties with due diligence. He said the bankers were being summoned to answer to some queries raised in the Audit Service Report of 2011, following the auditing of their operations.
A member of the committee, Hon. Hassan Sheriff, informed officials of the bank that both the Finance and Public Accounts committees will be embarking on a tour of the bank to ascertain for themselves the queries raised by the report, as the bank is 100% owned by the government and people of Sierra Leone, stressing that the institution should be transparent in their transactions.
Responding to the committee, Managing Director of Rokel Bank, Victor Cole, said the institution had done extremely well in terms of banking and promised the MPs that they would strive to surpass expectations.
He said the issues raised by the Audit report have been addressed, and that response had been sent to the Audit Service Sierra Leone.
