Maputo — The departing Cuban ambassador, Rafael Lopez, has stressed that his country continues to strengthen cooperation with Mozambique.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday after a farewell meeting with President Armando Guebuza, Ambassador Lopez recalled that cooperation between the two countries began shortly after Mozambican independence in 1975.
Ambassador Lopez pointed out that many Mozambicans have received training in Cuba. He added that training continues, but much of this now takes place in Mozambique.
The diplomat noted that, even though his country is still under an economic blockade by the United States, it has always shared what it has with its brothers such as Mozambique.
He also praised the economic growth he has seen in Mozambique during his four years as representative in Maputo.
