Sierra Leone: Salone Swimmer Out of World Championship

Sierra Leonean swimmer, Osman Kamara, has failed to qualify to the next round of the ongoing 15th FINA World Championship in Barcelona after he clocked 35.66 sec in the 50m butterfly.

Meanwhile, the other Sierra Leonean swimmer, Sahr James, will be swimming tomorrow in the 50m breast stroke.

According to the Sierra Leone Swimming Association's secretary general,Mohamed Turay - who also doubles as head of delegation to Spain, Kamara's performance was not bad despite his failure to qualify, adding that the good thing is they now have electronic timing on the international scene.

Turay said the competition is very much important for Sierra Leone and the swimmers to get such international exposure. He also revealed that their Italian coach, Mario Franchi, has joined the team's camp last Sunday.

Franchi, he added, has also found sponsorship from DIANA sportswear manufacturers for the two swimmers and has also constructed a website to promote Aquatic Sports in Sierra Leone and the world at large.

The two swimmers were part of the team that represented Sierra Leone in Istanbul, Turkey during the 11th FINA World Championship from December 12 to 17, 2012.
