Zimbabwe: Extra Kwazvose Thrills Fans in Kadoma

KADOMA music fans were last week treated to a good show when the star-studded new kids on the block Extra Kwazvose gave an impressive performance at Kadoma Cold Storage Commission Hall on Saturday evening. The much-hyped show lived up to its billing as the eloquently dressed outfit literary set the venue ablaze with dance and music sending their legion of followers into delirium when they belted hits after hits including several songs off their debut album "Ndizvo Zviripo".

This sold-out show was a barometer to the group's growing fan base in this mining town.

During the show, the group also unveiled its new kit from Hard Sounds courtesy of Harare businessman John Murira, who made this handsome donation to the group to put them on a sound footing.

Progress Chipfumo and Sounds of the Motherland, who were billed to perform, did not turn out despite having been contracted to perform at the gig. Their absence was, however, hardly noticed as Extra Kwazvose reserved extra energy to keep revellers on the dance floor until the wee hours of Sunday.

Charles Mumanyi, the affable music promoter, was overwhelmed by the huge turnout, saying he didn't expect so many people to attend the show.

"I am humbled by such a gesture and I intend to bring the guys back here and in the same vein I would like to apologise on behalf of Progress Chipfumo who did not make it and up to now I don't know the circumstances which prevented him from coming as everything was in order," said Mumanyi.

Extra Kwazvose are popularly known as the "Rebels", a name derived from being the off-shoot of Alick Macheso Orchestra Mberikwazvo and that name has stuck with them since the formation of the group nearly two months ago.

It was very unfortunate that those who have been making noise that the group's first act was mediocre and will struggle to make an impression in this cut-throat business, did not attend the show, otherwise they could have gone home convinced that given time, the band will shake the core of the music sector in Zimbabwe.

Fans were seen drawing closer the stage as they jostled to catch a glimpse of the group as they continued to polish up their act, with each song.

"This group I tell you will definitely take the music industry by storm and no wonder some people who are jealous are saying a lot about this group judging by their overnight success.

"I don't believe in love at first sight but these guys really impressed me and left me with no doubt that there are destined for great things. Group iri rino gonha mhani." said John Foster of Rimuka Kadoma who was among the revellers.
