Liberia: China Sends Riot Police

China announced Wednesday that it will be sending an anti riot police force to Liberia, numbering about 140 men, specially trained and skilled in martial arts, as part of efforts to beef up Liberia's fragile security ahead of the United Nation's Mission military drawdown here in September.

Chinese Charge d' Affair Yand Jun, told guests Wednesday night at a reception marking the 86th anniversary celebration of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army that this will be the first batch of Chinese FPU officers on an African soil.

China currently has nearly 600 peace-keeping troops and policemen, military observers and military staff serving in the UN Mission here.

"China gives it support to the UNMIL in its endeavor to maintain peace and stability (here in Liberia), he said.

"China has vowed to continue its assistance to Liberia in all forms," said Sen. Col. Zhoa Xizhang, Chinese Defense Military Attache to Liberia.

Zhoa said the 140 personnel are selected from among field police officers in northeast China's Heilongjiang province.

"They are really very skillful, well trained, so I believe their presence will further strengthen Liberia's Security," he said.

Since 2003, China has sent 15 batches of more than 7000 troops to UNMIL, 110 military observers, staff officers and 170 police officers to Liberia. They've transported 220,000 personnel and 280,000 tons of materials, mended 6,100 kilometers, roads, treated patients 35,000. He said China's assistance to Liberia goes beyond just contributing troops to providing training opportunities for Liberian Security officers.

Sen. Col. Zhoa said the Chinese Ministry of Defense has provided nearly US$10 million worth of military assistance and 171 training slots to the Armed Forces of Liberia. He said for the coming academic year 2012-2014, 30 scholarships have been provided for AFL officers to go to China for study in the areas of their capacity needs.

"And now I would like to announce a piece of good news, China has decided to provide a grant to equip and train an engineering company of the AFL," Sen. Col. Zhoa said. He said the training will enhance the AFL capacity to contribute to Liberia's social and economic recovery and raise the force's profile in terms of civil-military relations.

China's assistance package to Liberia goes beyond just the military. Chinese Charge d' Affair Yand said for the past decade since the re-establishment of biliateral relations between the two countries, bilateral trade volume has reached US$3.67 billion in 2012, ranking the country the 5th among West African countries with increasing Chinese investment.

communist China appears to be the main power player in Liberia today displacing the Americans and Europeans. They have a hugh presence in the UN force and is now sending riot police. But we must not forget these people are communist and do not cherish freedom as we know it. Their track record shows a regime that suppresses its own people and supports dictatorial governments militarily from Sudan and Zimbabwe to North Korea. Their aim is to protect The Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf government against opposition and the Liberian resources they now have assess to. Liberians beware of the Dragon!
