Alexander Ifeanyi Chukwu supports Dr. Obinna Uzoh, as the next Anambra State governor
Each people, culture and society must seek a solution to their own problems from their own people. And in so doing, such a people must out of necessity seek for a Moses who must lead them on the path to the promised land, no matter how arduous the journey. Anambra in its present status, has reached that point when it must make a conscious decision to break away from an inglorious recent past warped by political godfatherism, parochial and self-seeking aspirations of a few to the detriment of the masses of eastern Nigeria's most gifted people.
Obviously, the last seven years under Governor Peter Obi has clearly demonstrated that things could be better in any state where peace and tranquility reigns. No doubt, soft-spoken and businessman-turned politician Obi has become an interventionist character in the mould of a forerunner who must make the way for the coming of the anticipated leader of the people.
In-between fighting entrenched opposition with a peculiar penchant to always short-change the people of the state, Governor Obi has done well to point Anambra on the path of democratic leadership and its attendant benefits. It is only appropriate that going forward from this point, that the state which enjoys the unmatched honour of producing some of the most illustrious Nigerians of all-time should produce for its people and Nigeria, a man or woman of honour to put back the state on the map of Nigeria's leading federating units.
Anambra 2014 election is the test ground for people of the state and indeed Nigerians who love to see good things happen in their country to enthrone an honourable and purposeful leader in Anambra. Presently, candidates that have indicated their intention to vie for the office of the governor in Anambra in 2014, have been described eloquently in words as 'gladiators', 'giants,' 'heavyweights' and so forth.
Unfortunately, dominating this list of 'Grand-Actors' are men whose past records and poor display of integrity in the face of a rampaging treasury looters compromised the interest of the common Anambra man and woman. They must not be allowed near the corridor of power if the state is to occupy its choice place in Nigerian economic and political landscape. Their names ring bells - the Uba brothers, Senator Chris Ngige, businessman Ifeanyi Mbah, and many others who have become fronts for octopuses lurking in the background and only waiting to trap their common victims, the good people of Anambra State.
It would only amount to a waste of precious readers' time in trying to dwell on the celebrated and pathologic atrocious conduct of some of these elements parading themselves before Anambra people as best candidate for the Government House, Awka come 2014. Indeed, it would amount to giving them unmerited publicity mentioning their stock-in-trade on this well-intentioned piece, rather it would do to identify candidates whose conduct, present and past have positioned them as men Anambra need for the job at hand.
Without mixing up the objectives of this writing, the shining light of the few good men parading themselves as candidates in the 2014 election is one of the finest gentlemen in Nigeria's politics and philanthropist, Dr. Obinna Uzoh. Uzoh has an antecedent that speaks volume of the man and his passion for the people. An indigene of Ihiala and just 50 years of age, he parades a credential that is not tainted by the do-or-die attitude of his peers.
In the last 25 years or more, this University of Lagos trained lawyer and businessman has remained a source of succour for several Anambra youths and adults whom he has continued to give hope for a future that became bleak as a result of the selfish political leadership the state inherited. Under the Obinna Uzoh Foundation, several thousands of Anambra and none indigenes of the state have benefitted from the kind heart of the Chairman of Gocus Conglomerate.
Driven by a belief that: "leadership is all about prudence and vision, with an ability to be responsive to the plight of the populace", Dr. Obinna Uzoh has traversed the length and breadth of Anambra preaching this unalloyed gospel in the last two or more decades.
Whenever he contested elections in the past and whether he was rigged out or refused to be lured into the compromise politics that has marred his state politics in the last few years, the people of the state have always counted on what they love Obinna for most - compassion for the people and sincere milk of human love. He wears his love for the people of the state with a permanent smile and politics of violence is not part of his forte. To put it appropriately, where violence is in reign, Uzoh flees.
Dr. Uzoh's passion for education is one that has not found an equal among politicians of Anambra extraction. Sustained over the years, many indigenes of the state owe their education status to his provision in this all-important calling. Recently, he spent a whopping N350 Million to build a school hostel for students. His recent intervention effort in Agriculture has put smile on the faces of suffering Anambra farmers who could not have access to fertilizers, improved seedlings and other farming implements.
He also built a 3-storey Law Faculty for the Madonna University, Okija, Anambra State. And extending his love for education beyond his state, Obinna Uzoh has built, donated and renovated schools across the country including the equipping of several computer units and laboratories in secondary and tertiary institutions across the country.
Across Anambra State, his regular distribution of text books and instructional materials to schools, provision of boreholes, rural electrification and donation of transformers across the country, count as some of the clear indicators of a man who has the capacity and good intention for the people.
When the lack of health facilities challenged the hope of indigenes of Anambra State, Obinna was a ready solution for this. Since his first effort, he has sustained the sponsorship and donation of drugs for free medical outreaches to St. Charles Borromeo Hospital Onitsha for select towns in Anambra North senatorial area.
He would not stop there, he established special fund for assistance to pregnant women, widows, disabled people and people with heart, kidney, lung, sight and spinal cord problems across the state.
A member of the Nigerian Bar Association, Institute of Directors of Nigeria, the Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce, Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce and Nigerian-German Council, among numerous other organisations and institutions, this patriotic Nigerian from Anambra State holds the ace to the future stability and growth of the state.
