Nigeria: Corpses of Five Students Found in Jigawa

There was confusion and fear in Gwaram local government, Jigawa State, following the discovery of corpses for five students of a Quranic school along a street in Gwaram town.

The discovery which was made in the early hours of yesterday has created panic among residents of the area most of who are still in shock.

The police public relations officer in the state, DSP Abdu Jinjiri, who confirmed the incident, said the bys, almajirai Islamic pupils, were found dead found by the residents at about 5am by the roadside, close to some residential houses.

The police spokesman who said the cause of the death was yet to be ascertained gave the names of the deceased as Basiru Malam Inusa 12, Mansur Malam Inusa 12; Rabi'u Abubakar 13; Buhari Abubakar 10 and Bashir Inusa 1, respectively.

He however revealed that the corpses have been taken to the Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), Kano for immediate autopsy to ascertain the cause of the death.

Jinjiri also confirmed that 3 people have been invited by the police for questioning on the death.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP, a resident of the area, Mustapha Ibrahim, said at about 5:10am when they came out for Subhi prayer, they found the bodies of the five pupils.

"Even though we are not yet ascertain the circumstances led to their death, it might not be unconnected with something they ate in the night since all of them are pupils of the local quranic school (almajirai) and reside in one of the houses," he added.
