Kenya: Coffee Sector to Be Improved

Bomet county government has assured coffee farmers of its commitment to improve the sector.County executive member for Cooperatives, Augustine Cheruiyot, yesterday said his department will assist coffee farmers acquire seeds for new coffee varieties to boost production in the region.

Cheruiyot encouraged farmers to embrace latest coffee varieties such as Batian and Ruiru 11 since they do well.Speaking during a field visit to coffee farmers in Mutarakwa ward in Sotik constituency, he challenged farmers to increase acreage under coffee.

Cheruiyot asked the farmers to form groups for capacity building among them on coffee farming."It is only through groups that we will be able to reach out to farmers and give them the support," he said.
