Lack of funds and commitment by the ministry of education is threatening to derail the gains achieved in the implementation of sex education in school curriculum.
The curriculum on reproductive health which was proposed to address challenges in reproductive health and high school dropout rates now risk being phased due tom lack of support from the Government.
Family health option Kenya, a non Governmental organisation that initiated the program in primary and secondary schools in Nyanza Province said many schools have not been able to sustain the sexuality education in their schools due to lack of support from the ministry.
National advocacy officer at the Family health option Ruth Njagi said most of the programmes started in schools to enhance reproductive health knowledge are slowly taking up while some have been abandoned due to lack of support from the government.
"When the project started many schools enrolled but as soon as Non governmental organisation handed them over to the ministry, many have gone done", said Ruth during a sensitization workshop for media practitioners in Nyanza.
Njagi said despite efforts achieved in sensitizing youths on their sexuality the gains risk being reversed if government to support the sexuality education and school health clubs in the country.
