Angola: Minister Stresses Women Role in Development of Society

Luanda — Angola's minister of Family and Women Promotion, Filomena Delgado, Wednesday in Luanda urged the Government to recognise role of women in the various stages of the development and historical, political, and cultural process in their countries.

The minister was speaking at the opening of the round table on "The African Renaissance, the role of the Pan-African Women Organisation", aimed at saluting the African Women Day, 31 July.

According to the minister, women, particularly in Angola, are aware of the testimony they want to pass down to the future generations about the wisdom of life, history, homeland and family.

The source stressed that women have been active members of society, judging by their role in the resistance, promotion and preservation of values that dignify the gender, as well as their valuable contribution to achieve and maintain peace.

The meeting served for a reflection on the role of the Pan-African Women Organisation, strengthen the approach on gender in the development process in the African context.

The event gathered former combatant women of the African national liberation struggle.

Also attending the event, were members of the Ministry of Family and Women Promotion, of the ruling MPLA party's women wing (OMA) and of the Pan-African Women's Organisation (PAWO).
