Ghana: MTN Donates to Essikado Traditional Area

Sekondi — MTN Ghana, the leading mobile telecommunication firm in the country, has donated a cash sum of GH₵3,000.00 and other assorted items to the Omanhene of Essikado Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketsiah, ahead of the Kundum festival celebration.

Other items also presented included MTN recharge cards worth GH¢ 5,00.00 and souvenirs among others. A Senior Manager for the South/West Business District, Mr. Abubakar Mohammed, who led a team of MTN staff to do the presentation noted that his firm was delighted to celebrate with the people of Essikado, the Kundum festival, after 20 years of being kept on hold.

He said, per the celebration of the festival, the culture and heritage of the people were being sustained for the generations unborn.

Mr. Abubakar added that MTN recognized the importance of the chieftaincy institution and would continue to support the complimentary role of such institution in the socio economic development of the country.

"As a corporate organization, we have enjoyed a fairly good relationship with the Essikado Traditional Council over the years and we are more than happy to have been invited by Nana Kobina Nketsiah Trust to support the celebration," he noted.

He further added that the theme for the celebration -'Kundum, celebrating the Spirit of Africa' - had meaning, and MTN as an African institution spreading to the Middle East," and we strongly believe that the African has a lot to offer itself and the world at large when we fully utilise the resources available to us".

On his part, Nana Kobina Nketsiah V, who expressed his gratitude for the support offered by the MTN observed that the festival was a period to take stock of the past event and perhaps take a corrective action and not a period of festive seasons.

He said festivals are also used to remember what one leader had done and continue from there. It identified the culture and heritage of the said traditional area celebrating the festival, he added.
