Sierra Leone: MP Donates to Muslim Constituents

Member of Parliament representing Constituency 92 in the Western Urban District, Hon. Pateh Bah, has donated 90 bags of rice and 10 bags of sugar to the Muslim community in his constituency as a spiritual gesture to ameliorate the burden of observing the holy month of Ramadan.

Speaking to the beneficiaries at the Hastings community center, the ruling party MP revealed that he felt compelled to provide alms to Muslims in his constituency who worship in 83 mosques, and to demonstrate the spirit of sharing and alms giving during Ramadan.

Hon. Bah told his audience that seven bags of rice will be distributed to the disabled in the constituency, while the other bags of rice and sugar will be shared equally among the 83 mosques.

He pledged that as their MP he would continue to support the Muslims, as well as the Christians, as a way of demonstrating religious tolerance. He urged the community to practice tolerance by way of coexisting amicably with people of diverse religious persuasions, tribal affiliations and ethnic affinity.

Speaking at the ceremony, the deputy Chairperson of the Waterloo District Council, Madam Margaret Kargbo, paid tribute to the MP and urged the community to buy their local tax, as part of their contribution to economic development.

Across-section of community Imams praised the MP for his magnanimous gesture and promised to work with him for development in the constituency.
