Zambia: Lusaka Celebrates 100 Years

The Centenary Celebrations encompass the Keep Zambia Clean Campaign thus campaigns have been running in tandem with the celebrations.

Last Friday, a series of road shows took place in Lusaka's Bauleni and Mtendere areas.

The road shows involved artistes performing and sensitising their fans on the need to keep Lusaka clean.

Among the musicians, who performed at Bauleni were Maria whose song Baby Muchopo has been hitting the air waves lately.

She came on stage with two dancing queens whose disparity in size was as entertaining as the dances.

K'millian also came on stage and performed some of his old classic songs much to the delight of the older crowd at the grounds.

He then invited some of the children present to join him on stage so they could have a dance-off.

The kids, however, kept yelling for a song called Chuku (done by a Ghanaian artiste)and K'millian had no option but to give in to their demands.

Shyman Shaizo was also at the show and he was perhaps one of the main highlights of the road shows.

Shyman is a good performer and this was evidenced by how he engaged the crowd children and how the children sang along to most of his songs.

Comedian Mr Toilet of 'Nde loleshafye' fame was also present to deliver some jokes and entertain the children.

The Keep Zambia Clean Campaign's ambassadors (models) were also on hand to talk to the crowd about personal cleanliness and to the environment.

The road shows went well and had a huge crowd; however, it is worth noting something about the artistes.

Musicians must always be cautious about the crowd they are playing to.

There are certain words and phrases that you cannot use towards children. Artistes must be weary of lewd and sexual jokes when children are present.

Otherwise, the whole point of a road show is lost.
