Egypt: UN Chief, Ashton Reiterate Importance of Inclusive Political Process in Egypt

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon held discussions on Wednesday 31/7/2013 over phone with EU High Representative Catherine Ashton situation in Egypt following her visit to Cairo and meeting with ousted President Mohamed Morsi.

The UN Secretary General's spokesperson said in a statement that they stressed the importance of adopting an inclusive political process in Egypt.

They also discussed the peace process in the Middle East, the statement added.

During the phone call, Ban expressed hope for the success of the current efforts to bring Israel and Palestinian at the table of negotiations.

They also voiced deep concern over direction of transition in Egypt especially for the continued detentions.

In the same context, Ban welcomed the meeting held between Ashton and Morsi during her visit to Egypt.
