Kenya: Government Grants Raila 12 Security Officers

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Ole Lenku has formally written to the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to return eight vehicles he has been holding since he left office. The Interior Cabinet Secretary said the vehicles are not part of the former PM's entitlement after he exited office.

This comes after Odinga asked to be accorded benefits equal to those of retired president Mwai Kibaki since they were 'equals' in the coalition government.

The government has however allocated Raila a 12-man security detail for his person and residence as part of the new government policy on dignitaries. In addition Raila will be provided with two government vehicles for use with his security in the restructured policy.

The new policy comes in the wake of Ole Lenku assuring Kenyans that the former Prime Minister is regarded in high esteem by the government and therefore will be treated in accordance with his status.
