Eritrea: Commendable Soil and Water Conservation Activities Being Carried Out in Weki Area

Serejeka — Commendable soil and water conservation activities are being carried out in Weki area, Serejeka sub-zone, through the collaboration between participants of the SWP and the inhabitants, reports indicated.

Mr. Fitsumbirhan Gebremariam, one of the coordinators of the SWP in the locality, and Mr. Solomon Kokob from the Agriculture Ministry expressed satisfaction with the pace of the joint venture and the spirit of teamwork witnessed thereof. They further disclosed that remarkable afforestation activities have been accomplished, while more than 1 Km long terraces have been constructed and around 2.5 Km-long others were renovated.

Among the participants of the SWP, Zebib Meharizgi and Gebrehiwet Firezgi expressed satisfaction with taking part in the undertaking which has significant impact on the environment, and called on the inhabitants to make the necessary follow-up of the planted tree seedlings.

Out of the inhabitants, Ms. Fireweini Abraham, Mr. Fisehaye Tewolde and Metkel Yohannes stated that active community participation is being witnessed in the process, and voiced readiness to mount participation for still more gratifying outcome in this regard.
