Kenyan journalists refused to cover a press conference convened by majority leader Aden Duale Tuesday (July 30th) in protest over the closure of the parliament's media centre in June, Kenya's Daily Nation reported.
When Duale and his colleagues took their seats at the centre to wait for the arrival of journalists, they found more than 30 journalists had assembled outside the media centre. "We request that you come and cover us. We have assembled here and I am the one who called you, so please come in and cover us," Duale said.
The reporters refused, citing an order from the National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.
Later on Tuesday, a group of 11 lawmakers convened a second press conference at the centre, and journalists asked them to make their comments outside the centre.
