Ethiopia: The Landman Detained On Return From China

The Federal Ethics & Anti-Corruption Commission (FEACC) today put Kasim Fite, manager of the Land Development & Administration Office of the Addis Abeba City Administration, under custody. Kasim's immunity from arrest as a member of the House of Peoples' Representatives (HPR) was lifted on July 28th, upon the request of the Commission amidst allegations of corruption.

He could not immediately be arrested, however, as he had travelled to China without the knowledge of the Commission. He had claimed to have gone there for work and was arrested upon his voluntary return, according to sources from the Commission. The Commission has already taken Kasim's testimony, the press release it issued today states.
