Presidents of the six countries contributing troops to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) will meet Sunday (August 4th) in Kampala for an emergency session to streamline the ongoing offensive against al-Shabaab, Uganda's Daily Monitor reported.
"We have made significant progress in the security sector and need an equally supportive progress on the political structure," Ugandan Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary James Mugume said. "What is important is for the countries to harmonise our positions; this is more about co-operation."
The meeting of leaders from Uganda, Burundi, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Djibouti and Somalia comes amid reports of operational cracks among contributing troops. Recently, the Somali government accused Kenyan troops stationed in Kismayo of taking sides in the internal struggle over control of the newly formed Jubbaland regional administration.
