Nigeria: Farmer Admits Killing Roommate Over N4,000

A 29 year old farmer, Jammus Ibrahim, has confessed before a magistrate court in Ilorin that he killed and buried his roommate, Sahagari Jubirl over his refusal to return N4, 000 he kept with him.

While narrating the incident to the court, Ibrahim, who spoke through an interpreter, said when the victim died after being hit with a stick, he dug his grave and buried him in the farm yard.

He claimed that the money was given to the deceased to help him purchase half bag of rice in preparation for the planting season.

"I gave him the money when I wanted to travel that he should help me purchase half bag of rice for me to plant in the farm.

"After I returned from my journey and demanded for the money, he neither produces the money or the rice which led to our fight.

"I hit him with a stick in the melee that ensued and when he died, I dug the ground and buried him," he said.

Trial magistrate, Adenike Oluwatosin Adeniyi however said the court lacked jurisdiction to try the case being a criminal case and adjourned it to August 14, 2013 for further mention.

Ibrahim who is in court on a one-count charge of culpable homicide was later remanded in Federal Prison Yard, Oke-Kura.
