Kenya: Police Restore 999 Emergency Line

Police authorities said Communication Commission of Kenya ( CCK) and mobile phone service providers have complied with an order issued by the High Court to restore the line toll free line.

Nairobi has been allocated 22 lines so far and residents are encouraged to call only in times of emergencies.

Police say some residents have been calling with jokes and "stupid questions" and urged them to respect the service which should only be used to report crimes

On July 10 the High Court gave the CCK, mobile phone service providers and the police service until July 31 to restore the 999 emergency response number.
