Liberia: Sinoe Residents Stage Rally for Superintendent Teahjay After Prison Release

Greenville, Sinoe County- Hundreds of Sinoe County residents under the banner 'Friends of Teahjay' on Tuesday thronged the town hall in Greenville to welcome back home J. Milton Teahjay, the controversial superintendent of Sinoe who was incarcerated on July 18, 2013 for 48-hours by the House of Representatives.

Teahjay was ordered detained after he was found guilty by the Lower House for breaching the Public Financial Management Law of 2009 and found in violation of the Public Procurement and Concession Commission.

Supporters of Teahjay arrayed in white T-shirts to demonstrate peace and love amidst drumming and singing to catch a glimpse of their superintendent.

Amid reports that Teahjay's incarceration would result to tribal divide between the Sarpo and kru speaking people in the county, the program was graced by stakeholders from both ethnic groups.

The sarpo youth president, Kolo Gbarwee, expressed happiness for the return of Teahjay to the county after his incarceration. "Am very grateful to see our superintendent back in good health," he said.

Mrs Beatrice Seleweyon, member of the kru speaking group, said she came as far as the Mississippi Street to welcome back home a character she holds dear.

"I was at the town hall as early as 8: 00 am local time hours before Teahjay arrived; his speech gave me an assurance that he was fit for the senatorial seat. This is a message to Senator Nyenpan to back off from the 2014 race," she added.

She said the presence of the crowd demonstrated that Teahjay was the right man to lead Sinoe and urged citizens to continue praying for Teahjay for strength and wisdom to lead the county until 2014.

Teahjay reaffirms desire in 2014 senatorial race

Addressing supporters, Teahjay stated that the 'Friends of Teahjay'has endorsed his candidature and said the commissioners of various districts in the county had assured him of total support.

He said the 'Friends of Teahjay' has put up good structure in all parts of Sinoe and can boast of committed supporters, adding that the group would ensure that it mobilized residents of the county, especially youths to win the 2014 senatorial election.

The 'Friends of Teahjay' candidate claimed that some aggrieved supporters of Sen. Nyenpan have signified their intentions to defect to him from the day he was incarcerated. "Nyenpan's supporters called me from the minute they heard that I was jailed and pledged their support to me," Teahjay said.

Teahjay told Sinoe citizens he had prepared a blue print for the transformation of the county, stressing that he would soon commence a countywide tour which he said would take him to all the crannies of the county.

Assuring the people of Sinoe that he would consolidate on his achievements as superintendent and initiate other laudable programs in the areas of education, youth empowerment and urban renewal, as senator, Teahjay noted that his desire to serve as senator of the county was based on his conviction that he has all it takes to transform the county.

He also advised residents not to place importance on money politics stressing the need for them to vote for those who have the interest of the masses at heart, promising that he would volunteer his time and resources for the service of the county.
