Monrovia- Liberia Bank for Development and Investment boss John Davis has filed a criminal appearance bond one day after his indictment by the government on multiple charges in connection with the corruption saga at the Liberia Airport Authority (LCAA).
The bond in the tune of US$600,000.00 which will grant the defendant temporary release until the resumption of the case was filed to the Criminal Court "C" at the Temple of Justice Thursday thru the Omega Insurance Company by and thru its President/CEO Charles Ananaba.
Portion of the bond reads: The Liberia Bank for Development and Investment (LBDI) by and thru its President, Deputy, General Manager, Comptroller and all authorized executives to be identified will appear in court thereafter from day to day to answer to the above named charges until duly discharged from said crimes if convicted of said crimes, they will surrender themselves unto the custody of this court to undergo the full sentence of the law indicated the criminal appearance bond.
Defendant Davis is among several other persons being indicted by the government on multiple charges including economic sabotage, theft of property, criminal conspiracy, and misapplication of entrusted property.
The defendants charged alongside the LBDI boss include: Ellen K. Corkrum, former managing Director of the Liberia Airport Authority currently in the US, Musa Bility Chairman of the Board of Directors LCAA Disapora Consulting LLC, Momar Dieng also of the US.
Others include Melvin Johnson of the US, First International Bank (FIB) thru its president Wole Sodipe who was arrested on Wednesday and placed behind bars because he could not file a valid criminal bond with the court, Jeremi Tegli, Justin Ogugua and all authorized agents of (FIB) and Gloria Menjor of LBDI.
The indictment drawn by the special grand jurors of Montserrado County said upon Oath that they do hereby more probably than not that the defendants some in Liberia and the United States of America did conspire to and committed the crimes of economic sabotage, misapplication of entrusted property, theft of property, and criminal conspiracy in flagrant violation of the new penal law of Liberia.
Also the indictment stated that co-defendant Musa Bility was aware that he was not authorized to sign any financial instrument whether cheques or transfer application along with co-defendant Cockrum the managing director as the signatory but co-defendant Bility ignored the instruction and allowed the LBDI to sign all cheques and application for transfer of funds from October 1, 2012 to February 4, 2013.
The indictment further that co-defendant LBDI had clear instructions from the prosecutrix through a letter communicated to that bank by the board chairman Bility that A and B signatures are required for transaction at the time C signature will be forwarded in the absence of A, the co-defendant LBDI allegedly disregarded this instruction and colluded with co-defendants Ellen Cockrum, Musa Bility, Momar Dieng and Diaspora Consulting LLC to deprive the prosecutrix of US$269,000.00 known that at no time that co-defendant Bility and Corkrum jointly initiate a transaction on the private prosecutrix's LBDI account.
Meanwhile Bility Cockrum and others remain at large but the GoL through the Minister of Information has vowed to do everything in its poer to make sure Cockrum and others are brought to justice.
In another development the Metropolitan Hotel on Broad Street has been closed down because of a court order in favor of the Global Bank Liberia Limited.
