Kenya: President Kenyatta Urges Calm Over Narasha Saga

President Uhuru Kenyatta condemned the manner in which a court order to evict families at Narasha in Nakuru County was executed. While assuring residents that the government was not involved in the evictions President Kenyatta said officers executing lawful orders should be humane and respect the basic rights of other Kenyans adding that the plight of the affected families will be addressed.

Also while addressing the public baraza at Narasha Primary school, Kenyatta asked area residents to give the committee investigating the evictions to be headed by Interior and National Coordination Cabinet Secretary Joseph Ole Lenku a chance to conclude their work.

The President further urged Kenyans to wary of politicians who incite them to violence and abandon them when chaos breaks out. "Some politicians who have been in Government during the land dispute period are coming here to incite you against the current Government barely six month in office. Tell them off," Kenyatta said.

President Kenyatta commended the current elected leaders in Nakuru, Narok and Kajiado counties for their political maturity in handling the Narasha evictions.

He said this while affirming his commitment to uniting the country. "Mine is a Government that will serve all Kenyans in a just manner and without discrimination," the President said.
