Benghazi — Libyan General National Congress President Nouri Abu Sahmein on Tuesday (July 30th).appointed Major-General Abdulsalam Jadallah al-Salihine al-Obeidi to replace Youssef al-Mangoush.
The former army chief resigned in early June after violent militia clashes in Benghazi left 31 people dead and a hundred wounded.
"Jadallah al-Obeidi is a good man who truly loves Libya," Colonel Ahmed al-Warfelli said. "He is a consensus figure who has no enemy, and this is the most important advantage about him."
The 53-year-old army chief is a Benghazi native. He served in Special Forces under Moamer Kadhafi before joining the rebellion in 2011.
The appointment comes as his hometown faces an increase in violence.
Journalist Mohamed Karkara said, "All the losses that were caused by the bombings can be compensated. However, the biggest loss that can't be compensated is the loss of internal peace and loss of hope about a bright future and about God's mercy that encompasses everything".
Raja Abdul Jalil, 33, a physiotherapist, said: "The only way to confront the Muslim Brotherhood is to support the army," she added.
"Meanwhile, we should ask world countries to send us security advisors because we don't have the necessary experience to even protect ourselves," she added.
