Tunisia: Liaison Committee Appointed By NCA to Hold Talks With Dissident Deputies

Bardo — 117 deputies of the National Constituent Assembly (NCA) held on Thursday a consultation meeting during which it was agreed to establish a Liaison Committee to conduct talks with withdrawing deputies and the government to find a common ground on how to overcome the current crisis.

The Liaison Committee is composed of the following deputies: Walid Bannani (Ennahdha), Jamel Touir (Ettakatol), Noura Ben Hassine (Congress for the Republic), Skander Bouallagui (Al-Mahabba Movement), Azed Badi (Wafa Movement), Tarek Bouaziz (Al-Joumhouryia Movement) and Hichem Ben Jamaa (Democratic Alliance).

The Committee will also to establish contacts with the Prime Ministry next Saturday, said Azed Badi, deputy of Wafa Movement and member of this committee.

Its members held a meeting with President of the National Constituent Assembly (NCA) Mustapha Ben Jaafar to agree on the work process to follow.

During their first meeting held on Thursday, the deputies stressed their commitment to the legitimacy of the NCA.

They also called on dissident deputies to reconsider their position and give a chance to dialogue so as to overcome the current crisis and reach an agreement on the terms to be applied to end the transition period.

The deputies asked for a plenary session to be held next Monday or Tuesday.

The NCA President carried on consultations with party leaders and organisations.

He conferred with President of the Tunisian Industry, Trade and Handicrafts Union (UTICA) Wided Bouchamaoui, President of the Tunisian League for the Defense of Human Rights (LTDH) Abdessattar Ben Moussa and Leader of the Liberty and Dignity Party Tahar Iléhi.
