Angola: Akz 300 Billion Invested in Electricity Projects

Cela — At least Akz 300 billion (Usd 3.0 billion) are being invested by the Angolan State in the implementation of structuring projects in the domain of production of energy, Angop learned on Thursday.

The information was released in Cela city, municipality of Waku Kungo, central Kwanza Sul province, by the minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges.

The minister was addressing the 3rd Broad Consultative Council of the Ministry of Energy and Water.

Among the main projects, the minister mentioned the Laúca Hydroelectric Development, in northern Kwanza Norte province, which will generate 2,067 Megawatts, with conclusion set for 2017.

The construction of the second phase of the Cambambe Hydroelectric Dam, in Kwanza Norte province, and the Soyo Combined Station, in northern Zaire province, are another projects mentioned by the minister.

According to the official, in view of the needs contained in the sector's actions plan for the 2013-2017 period, coupled with the Executive Programme, another Akz 2.3 trillion will be required for the implementation of projects in the power sector.

In 2012, he recalled, both the National Electricity Company (ENE) and the National Electricity Distribution Companies (EDEL), got a from the State's coffers a total of Akz 70 million to subsidise the cost of power.

The Broad Consultative Council of the Ministry of Energy and Water is being attended by the secretaries of State for Energy and Water, Joaquim Ventura and Luís Filipe da Silva, respectively, national directors and other senior officials of the sector.
