Gambia: Over D1.8 Million Worth of Materials for Gunjur Health Centre

Gunjur Health Centre in Kombo South, West Coast Region on Sunday received over D1.8 million worth of items from natives of Gunjur living in the Diaspora at a presentation ceremony held at the health centre.

The donated items include; hospital beds, mattresses, bedspreads, medical items, curtains and baby lotion amongst others. The donation came shortly after a native of the village, residing in the UK Buba Barrow visited the health centre to know its contraints. The donated items were handed over to the management of the hospital by the the Village Development Committee on behalf of the donors. In his remarks, the chairman of the committee, Demba Jobe Touray described the initiative as a noble gesture and commended the donors for ploughing back their resources, in their native community. While citing the group's continous assistance to the health centre, Touray acknowledged the donors commitment to the development of the country's health sector which he said was crucial for any meaningful development. He therefore thanked the donors on behalf of the village for the gesture.

The chairman of Gunjur Health Committee, Foday Nkal Darboe, expressed delight on the donated items and urged the donors to strengthen the bond of unity and cooperation amongst themselves. He said the materials will go a long way in promoting quality health service delivery at the health facility.

Speaking on behalf of the council of elders, Alhaji Kitim Barrow applauded the donors saying the donation would not benefit only the people of Gunjur but the entire country noting that the facility is for the entire Gambian populace. He said there could be no meaningful development without a healthy nation and added that the gift will complement government's efforts in the provision of quality health care services to its citizenry.

Barrow called on all to emulate the gesture. "We are proud of you and we pray that God continues to shower his blessings on you so that you can do more of this for your country," he said.
