Following the election of the new Executive Committee of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) headed by president-elect Mustapha Kebbeh, Observer Sports went round to sound the opinion of football stakeholders in the country.
Speaking in an interview in Banjul, Lamin Njie a football fan, said the election of the new executive is timely. He said he believes that the new executive will deliver up to expectations. Njie also called on the private sector to invest in Gambian football.
Adama Sambou said the time has come for Gambian football to come back to life and this can only be achieved through moral and financial support. He too called on the stakeholders to bury the hatchet and give maximum support to the new executive for the interest of Gambian football. He advised that the new team be given time to work.
Kebba Jatta, also a football fan from Serekunda, said he was very happy that after all the struggles the Gambia has proved to the world that it can run its football.
Binta Njie, a football fan residing in Latrikunda, called on Gambian footballers plying their trade outside the country to work smoothly with the new executive to raise the Gambian flag high at international level.
Saikou Fatajo of Fajikunda called on stakeholders in football to forget all their differences and champion the success of the country's football. "It is now time to work for the good [of the game]," he said, adding that all what is needed now is to develop the game at the grassroots and school football level in order to have young talented players who would be able to make a difference in football.
Mafuji Jatta, a member of the Gambia Football Coaches Association, said he is happy with the way and manner in which the election was conducted. He said the only problem now facing Gambian football is sponsorship but with more commitment from the stakeholders and the private sector, this will become a thing of the past.
