Nigeria: Benin Airport Closure - We Acted Lawfully, Oshiomhole Tells Jonathan

Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, yesterday met President Goodluck Jonathan over the circumstances which led to the sudden closure of the Benin Airport.

He said that the Edo State government acted lawfully by demanding for the remittance of taxes and insisted that even though the issue had been settled, the Edo State government acted lawfully in closing the Airport.Oshiomole also said that the registration of All Progressive Congress (APC) was a welcome development which would keep politicians on their toes as well as avail Nigerians the opportunity to make informed choices.

"It is all about battle of ideas, battle of programmes and the welfare of our people. And if you have two viable parties that are capable of connecting with the people, then they will have the basis for genuine and meaningful choice. When people know that people have a choice, all of us in public offices will are guided", the comrade governor stated.

Oshiomhole who met the President in his office later accompanied him to his residence to condole with the First Family over the death of the First Lady's mother, Madam Charity Oba.

Speaking on the closure of the Benin Airport, the governor said the issue was not about tenement rate but pay as you earn a federal law which the State government only tried to enforce.
