Though the Joint Task Force (JTF) in the state in their account of the incident in a statement on Monday claimed that only one policeman died when the insurgent attacked the town on Sunday morning.

But a senior public servant who preferred anonymity told journalists yesterday that seven policeman died from the incident while other injured policemen who sustained injuries were receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital(UMTH).

The sum of N250,000 each were given to five policemen and three soldiers who sustained injuries during the attack, by the Borno State Government.

Alhaji Zanna Umar Mustapha, who was on a sympathy visit to the injured policemen at the UMTH announced the money on behalf of the state. He said the security men were injured in the course of defending the nation and wished them quick recovery, adding that the government will continue to support security agencies in the state.
