South Africa: Child Protection Register - Parliament Must Pass DA PMB This Year

Earlier today the Department of Social Development and the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development briefed the Portfolio Committee on Social Development on their proposed amendments to section 120 of the Children's Act of 2005, particularly regarding the Child Protection Register.

The DA welcomes the proposed amendments, which now include an "attempted rape" conviction as grounds for finding someone unsuitable to work with children. This was the basis of my proposed amendment to the Children's Act which is currently being considered by the committee.
