Engineer Stephen Gichuki is set to leave his post as Managing Director at the Kenya Airports Authority as his contract is coming to an end on October 23. KAA has appointed Lucy Mbugua as acting Managing Director.
Mbugua is currently the General Manager for Marketing and Business for the Authority, a position she has held for the last eight years. KAA will also advertise the position to recruit a new MD in the coming days. "The outgoing Managing Director, Eng Stephen Gichuki, will proceed on his terminal leave in accordance with the State Corporations and Regulations provisions.
The Board wishes to thank Eng Gichuki for his long service to this Authority and his contribution to the development of Airports in Kenya." KAA said. KAA has further said the government and the Ministry of transport will support the Authority to ensure that operations are restored to a normal level at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The Authority said JKIA's parking garage will be converted into a passengers arrival hall. Unit 2 Departures between Gates 8 and 4 will be open for use by Kenya Airways by tomorrow, Friday. Unit 1 Check-in hall is being prepared for use by the other airlines within three weeks.
" We expect to set up a temporary Terminal within eight weeks. The completion of Terminal 4 is being expedited to bring it into partial operation by the end of this year." KAA added that the planning and and construction process for the Greenfield Terminal is in progress stating that "the Greenfield Terminal is the ultimate solution for the positioning of JKIA as an African hub.'
