Southern Africa: Misa Botswana On Postponed Tabling of FOI Draft Bill

press release

The Media Institute of Southern Africa Botswana Chapter (MISA Botswana) would like to register its disappointment on the continued postponement of the tabling of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Draft Bill by Government.

The chapter notes that the Minister responsible for Information and Media, in this case Mr. Mokgweetsi Masisi, has for a long time dragged the FOI issue for rather too long. Mr. Masisi announced last year September that the government sponsored Freedom of Information draft Bill will be ready for debate in parliament in December 2012 or latest February 2013, this was after a Private Members Bill by the Gaborone Central Member of Parliament Mr. Dumelang Salishando was rejected by Parliament.
