The Kwale county security department has directed all boda boda operators in Msambweni district to register with police. Msambweni district deputy commissioner Benjamin Leparmorijo said the move will help police stem crime in the area. He said some suspected boda boda operators have been involved in theft and robberies in the area.
"We want to make sure all boda boda operators in this area are registered and be given certain numbers which will identify them once on the road," said Leparmorijo.
He said once the registration is done, police will track suspected bodaboda operators using their identity numbers."The complaints we have received from Ukunda, Msambweni and LungaLunga over M-Pesa theft involving motorcycle operators are many," said Leparmorijo. He said police will remain vigilant in their crackdown on criminlas operating in the area.
"There are a few individuals who may be involved and we are asking motorcyclists to help us get them because they are damaging the reputation of boda boda industry," said Leparmorijo.
The officer also advised motorcyclists to obey traffic rules. He said they should all have relevant documents for operation. "Anyone found flouting traffic laws will be dealt with accordingly," he said. Leparmorijo urged residents to volunteer any information which can lead to arrest of criminals.
