The two new mobile TV services, DStv mobile and GOtv mobile, were launched last week in what should change the face of digital television services in Uganda.
The commercial launch comes a few months after a successful pre-launch that saw the mobile TV services made available to a selected group of key stakeholders. The mobile TV devices include the Walka 7, Walka 4.3 and Walka 3.5, which are 7, 4.3 and 3.5 inch mobile TV handsets. MultiChoice also launched the Drifta.
The Drifta is a mobile TV decoder that receives mobile TV broadcast signal and relays it over Wi-Fi to a range of Wi-Fi capable devices such as laptops, PCs, tablets and Smart phones. Three types of Driftas were launched: iDrifta, Drifta Wi-Fi and the Drifta USB.
According to Charles Hamya, the General Manager Multichoice Uganda, the launch of mobile TV devices showed that MutiChoice was committed to innovation and provision of quality services in the Ugandan market.
"We want Ugandans to be able to watch their favourite shows on DStv and Gotv any time and these devices will make that possible."
