Tanariver County Government Economic advisor to the Governor Dr Mandara Badiribu died in a grisly road accident at Wenje along the Hola Garsen road yesterday morning.
Six other County departmental heads who were with Badiribu in the vehicle narrowly escaped death and are fighting for their lives at Hola district hospital.
The accident occurred after the vehicle they were travelling in rolled near Wenje early in the morning while on their way to Garsen to collect views of the members of the public meant to popularize the County Integrated Development Plan.
Badiribu an economist and key official of the Tanariver Governor Ambassador Hussein Dado was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Hola District hospital.
Witnesses said the deceased was driving the vehicle when the accident occurred. The Six other occupants were the County Development Planning Officer, Mr. Lenox Mbwana, two District Development officers from Bura and Garsen.
They are currently admitted at Hola hospital but their conditions are said to be stable. Eye witnesses said the vehicles were being driven at high speed in a convoy of other four vehicles home leading to Garsen when the accident occurred.
The witnesses said Badiribu lost control of the Totota Prado KBS 565 C and veered off the road before rolling several times and landed on its roof.
"Dr. Badiribu was thrown over 15 meters away from his vehicle, he landed on his head," said one of the witness from Wenje in a telephone interview. Medical officers from Hola confirmed the death and said they were fighting to save others.
Ambassador Dado reportedly rushed to the hospital upon learning about the incident and is expected to issue a statement later Badiribu was the key engineer of the County Integrated Development Plan and was highly relied upon by the Governor to implement it and help develop the region faced with high poverty levels.
