The National Secretary of the Arewa National Movement, Chief Iorember Aker has called for the immediate scraping of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and probing of her members and staff.
He made the call yesterday after a consultative meeting with stakeholders in Abuja.
The movement wondered why the EFCC which was established by an act of the parliament with a statutory mandate to amongst other things; investigate arrest and prosecute financial criminals who constitute 60 percent of the menace of corruption in Nigeria, with the view to eradicating sharp practices by both public and private officers appear comatose at the moment.
He regretted that the commission has turned itself into an appendage commission for sitting presidents who decide to go against patriotic citizens who stand for the truth in defence of democracy.
Aker said, several Nigerians have fallen victims of the vindictive and selective arrests and interrogation by the EFCC, adding that during the third term bid of President Obasanjo, governors who stood against him were publicity embarrassed by the EFCC. Notable amongst them, he said, was Demiprie Alayeimeighsia, now honoured with a presidential pardon by a sitting president.
According to him, a former governor of Kwara State Dr. Bukola Saraki, now a ranking senator is been quizzed and interrogated by the anti-graft commission for financial fraud they alleged he committed before he became governor in 1999.
"This is an act of witch- hunting. That 14 good years after a financial crime is committed, the anti-graft agency just woke up from a dream and came after a statesman, a patriotic Nigerian and servant of his people to dent his promising political investment ahead of 2015".
At the time of taking this resolution by the ANM, he said, the search light of the EFCC is now beamed on governor Amaechi and all his supporters, saying the anti-graft agency should be scrapped to save billions wasted on its operations.
