Kenya: MP Backs Boda Boda Crackdown

MSAMBWENI MP Suleiman Dori has backed a police crackdown on boda boda operators who flout traffic laws. Addressing the operators at Nyumba Mbovu in Msambweni, Dori said the crackdown is for their own safety.

"Many of you are complaining about harassment by police but it is for your safety. Just follow the laws and you won't see police arresting you. We want to have no accidents like now," Dori said.

Msambweni deputy police boss Gifinalis Baraza said they will vet all boda boda operators in a bid to reduce crime in the area. He urged them not to allow strangers to operate at their picking points because they may be criminals.
