Nairobi — Violent clashes have erupted in Moyale just hours after Interior Principal Secretary Mutea Iringo held a meeting with political and community leaders in the area and warned that the government will use force to end incessant fighting.
Peter Outa from the Kenya Red Cross told Capital FM News that renewed clashes were reported in Butiye Moyale on Friday morning with reports of gunfire renting the air well into the afternoon.
"We have dispatched a response team to ferry casualties to the hospital but they have not been able to access the area. The gunfire heightened about two hours ago and it is still ongoing," he said at about 1pm.
Outa said the area where the fresh skirmishes occurred was about two kilometres from the Moyale-Marsabit road.
Outa says business premises and houses were torched in Somare and Teti in the clashes which began at around 7.30am on Friday.
In addition, there have been reports of fighting in Lowaringok in Turkana since Thursday night.
