Orange CAF Champions League defending Champions Ahly of Egypt completed the double over Congo's AC Leopards beating them 2-1 at Group A match day 4 of the continent's premier club competition. The game was held at Red Sea resort Gouna Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Abdullah El Said put Ahly ahead after 40 minutes, while Waleed Suleiman doubled the Reds lead in the 68th minute. Eric Niemba scored the visitor's only goal 4 minutes from time. Ahly's goalkeeper Sherif Ikramy stopped a penalty from Leopards' Ulrich Nzamba at the end of the first half.
Ahly raised their tally to 7 points to go on top of Group A alongside South Africa's Orlando Pirates who face Egypt's Zamalek at the same venue on Sunday, while Leopards remained third with 4 points.
Ahly started the game on high note, and looked determined to complete a double over Leopards after beating them 1-0 in Dolisie a fortnight ago. El Sayed Hamdy could have opened the scoring for the home side after just 5 minutes but his shot went wide. El Said fired another shot that found Leopards' keeper Lawrence Ngome in time and place. Ahly attacked from the left side, and Sayed Moawad pass found Mohamed Abu Treika whose shot went just wide.
The Reds continued to press and Ramy Rabiaa's shot kissed the crossbar, while the visitors applied a defensive game. The goal finally came for the home side after 40 minutes when El Said received a through ball to go pass two defenders and fire a strong shot home giving Ahly the lead.
Two minutes before the break Leopards could have equalized. Hossam Ashour brought Junior Mouzita inside the area, and Senegalese referee Diatta pointed to the spot. But Ahly's goalkeeper Sherif Ikramy produced a heroic save to deny Nzamba. The first half ended with Ahly leading 1-0.
The second half was a similar story, with the Reds pressing in search of a second goal. Ahly manager Mohamed Youssef made two changes bringing in Ahmed Abdel Zaher and Sherif Abdel Fadeel for Hamdy and Rabiaa. Abu Treika should have doubled Ahly lead when he went round Ngome only to shoot outside an empty net.
Ahly had their second goal after 68 minutes when Suleiman had the ball at the penalty area's edge to send a curling shot to the back of the net. The goal scorer left the pitch to Shehab Ahmed as Ahky went back to defend their lead.
Four minutes from time Niemba made use of a rare Ahly defensive error to score the visitor's only goal. Ikramy proved to be man of the match when he produced a last minute effort to deny Tusilu from scoring, and save Ahly's victory.
