Zambia: Cardinal Mazombwe's Body to Lie in State in Chipata

The body of the late Cardinal Medardo Mazombwe will this morning be ferried to Chipata where the locals will bid farell to their former Bishop.

Zambia Episcopal Conference spokesperson Father Paul Samasumo said the Easterners had demanded that they have a final look at the fallen cleric before his burial in Lusaka on Tuesday.

Samasumo said mass in Chipata will be held at St Annes Cathedral grounds.

He said the body will be taken back to Lusaka on Monday.

"The delegation of 30 priests, religious Sisters and Brothers, Catholic men, women and youth will be led by Chipata Diocese Bishop, Right Rev. George Lungu. In Chipata, there will be a Funeral Mass at St. Anne's Cathedral grounds starting at 15.00hrs, Sunday 1 September 2013," Samasumo said.

Mazombwe will be laid to rest on Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Child Jesus.
